What can I do if I see jumbled paints, or paints appearing on the wrong cars?

There is an occasional iRacing graphics glitch that can result in paints—both Trading Paints custom paints and iRacing default paints—appearing on the wrong cars in the sim unexpectedly. Cars may show up with a jumbled or broken appearance, even impacting uneditable items like light decals, names, and sim-stamped numbers. You might even see your own car racing behind you in the mirror!

If this happens, disabling iRacing’s Video mem swap high-res cars option should resolve the issue.

To change this setting:

  1. Launch a session in the iRacing sim (test, practice, race, or otherwise).

  2. Open the Options menu.

  3. Choose the Graphics tab.

  4. You may need to click the Advanced button if you don’t see lots of individual performance settings.

  5. Uncheck the option labeled Video mem swap high-res cars.

  6. Click Done to close the options menu.

  7. Fully close out of the iRacing sim and restart the sim in order for the changes to take effect.
