Can I leave Trading Paints Downloader running at all times?

You may choose to leave Trading Paints running even when you’re not racing if you wish with minimal impact.

Unless you have an option enabled to download paints on program startup or “keep paints synced from the website”, Trading Paints Downloader does not download any files unless the iRacing sim is open and there are custom paints from the Trading Paints servers that need to be downloaded.

If you do not feel comfortable with keeping Trading Paints Downloader open, you can launch the program only when racing/spectating/watching replays if you prefer.
